The Florida Dyslexia Literacy Center (FDLC) helps learners, families, and educators access specialized instruction, professional training, and reliable dyslexia education throughout Northeast Florida.
Florida Dyslexia Literacy Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to help students who struggle with reading in public, charter, private, and homeschools.
For decades, DePaul has helped students with dyslexia change their lives through better reading support. But one school cannot meet the growing need. More than 35,000 students in Duval County alone have dyslexia, and many schools and teachers do not have the training they need to help these students become successful readers.
FDLC expands DePaul’s impact in two important ways: Teachers receive Orton-Gillingham training to better understand and teach students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. Students get specialized tutoring that teaches reading the way their brains learn best.
To expand access to evidence-based dyslexia support by providing students with specialized literacy instruction and empowering educators with the training and tools needed to help every learner succeed.

Florida Dyslexia Literacy Center is built on the Orton-Gillingham approach, a method developed specifically to teach students with dyslexia to read. Rather than expecting children to pick up reading naturally, it uses structured, sequential, multisensory instruction, engaging students through seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing to build lasting literacy skills.
Lessons are taught step by step, with each new concept introduced only after the previous one has been mastered. Students progress at their own pace, building confidence alongside their reading abilities.
This kind of specialized instruction isn’t widely available outside of DePaul. Too many children spend years believing they’re the problem, when the real issue is that they haven’t been taught in the way they learn best.
